Behind the Scenes: Running a Business in the Digital World

I like my e-mail inbox the way I like my kitchen countertops: clear and uncluttered! But as someone who gets hundreds of e-mails each day, that can be a challenge to maintain.

From correspondences with business colleagues to mail from our web sites, The DeClutter Coach, DC Efficiency Consulting, Organization Motivation!, or Organized in 60 Seconds, I’m flooded with messages on a daily basis. It’s fantastic — I love hearing from our many wonderful fans, interested clients, happy customers, and amazing sponsors and advertisers! But maintaining that neat inbox requires me to stay on top of things. Thanks to my trusty iPhone, iPad, and laptop, I’m able to do just that!

I always say that when it comes to technology, I “know enough to be scary.” But in all seriousness, navigating the digital world is a must when it comes to running a successful business these days.

Handling e-mail is only one aspect of what it takes. There’s so much else that goes on “behind the scenes.” Take our Facebook page, for example. I’m proud to say that we now have more than 1,100 likes – and that number is growing each day!

What’s even more exciting is the fact that our Facebook fans span the globe, from here in the U.S. to Canada, the UK, Germany, Australia, India, Chile, and Belgium, to name a few! The list goes on and on – 17 countries in all!

Social media has definitely helped our business grow! So have other great digital tools. Our QR codes (you know, those little black and white squares that you zap with your phone) take interested people to our web sites in an instant. My eNewsletter goes out to hundreds of subscribers each month, and our websites enjoy high-volume traffic. And thanks to the wonders of YouTube, all our Organization Motivation! fans who live outside the viewing area or might have missed us on tv can watch full episodes online! You gotta love technology!

Years ago, a business like mine would probably enjoy success locally, with the hope of someday expanding across the region or even the state. But today, thanks to the amazing power of technology, we’re getting not only national, but global attention!

Now that’s something to cheer about!
